How to Apply for Food Assistance (Food Stamps) in Colorado?

In Colorado, one application is used to apply for all available Cash Programs, Medical Assistance, and the Food Assistance Program.

Applicants can get the application online or from the local County Department of Human Services. The applicant needs to fill out all the required information on the application and return it to the office.

Before the decision is made a Food Assistance worker has to interview the applicant and verify all the paperwork.

If the applicant is eligible, they will receive a notice stating how much food assistance benefit and for how long is the applicant eligible for before a review of their case is due.

Households must apply for food assistance in the county in which they live. If interested in getting Colorado Food Assistance Program, start by downloading the Colorado Food Assistance Application, complete your name, address, sign, and turn your application into the County Food Assistance Office where your household lives.

You can go to the local Food Assistance Office and complete the application while you are there. If you do not have all the information complete as much as you can including your name, social security number, what you are applying for, and sign it.

The Food Assistance Office has to accept the application with the current date. You can provide the rest of the information later at the interview. Once you have filed the application, you will be given or mailed an appointment for an interview with a Food Assistance worker.

Some households may get Expedited Services – that is getting Food Assistance Benefits within 7 calendar days if your household has less than $150 in monthly gross income and liquid resources (cash, checking or savings accounts) of $100 or less; or your rent or mortgage payment and utilities are more than your household’s combined monthly income and liquid resources, or a member of your household is a migrant or seasonal farmworker.
