Allocation of this type of funding is based on a funding formula.
Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program grants are available to the selected low-income public and nonprofit private elementary schools to serve to produce to school children during the school year. To get the federal grants all participating schools must agree to serve fresh fruits and vegetables free to all enrolled children and to publicize fresh fruit and vegetable availability within the school. All participating schools are subsequently reimbursed with the available grants for funding the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.
Beneficiary Eligibility
All children enrolled in the selected elementary schools that participate in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. As required by this federal program State agencies must select low-income public and nonprofit private elementary schools to participate in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.
