  • 1. Alabama Food Assistance Program  – Providing monthly benefits to eligible low-income households to help them buy the food they need for good health. The Alabama Food Assistance application is available online and as a downloadable print.   • 2. Alabama Family Assistance  – Provides cash via the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. TANF covers basic needs for low-income families with children under age 18 or age 19 if s/he is a full-time student in a secondary school or the equivalent level of vocational or technical training. Call: 334-242-1773
  • 3. Alabama Medicaid  – A health insurance program that provides medical and health-related services to eligible Alabama residents. Call: 334-242-5000
  • 4. Alabama ALL Kids-Children’s Health Insurance Program  – Offers low-cost and comprehensive healthcare coverage for eligible Alabama children under 19. Benefits include regular checkups and immunizations, sick child doctor visits, prescriptions, vision and dental care, hospitalization, mental health, and substance abuse services. Call: 800-252-1818
  • 5. Alabama Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)  – Helps low-income Alabama residents pay their high heating and cooling bills. Apply for assistance with your home heating or cooling bill with an agency in your county. Call: 800-392-8098
  • 6. Alabama Weatherization Assistance Program  – Assists households reduce energy bills by improving the energy efficiency of their homes. Call: 334-242-4909
  • 7. Alabama Telephone Assistance Program (Lifeline)  – Offers discounts on basic monthly service for qualified telephone customers. Call: Local telephone company
  • 8. Alabama Telephone Assistance Program (Link-Up)  – Provides discounts on installation charges for telephone service to eligible Alabama program participants. Call: Local telephone company
  • 9. Alabama Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) A supplemental nutrition program for pregnant women, breastfeeding women, women who had a baby within the last six months, infants, and children under the age of five offering healthy foods, breastfeeding support, nutrition education, health care referrals.   • 10. Alabama School Breakfast and Lunch Program  – Provides low-cost or free meals to school children. Call:  334-242-1988
  • 11. Alabama Special Milk Program  – Offers milk to children in schools, childcare institutions, and eligible camps. Call: 334-242-8249
  • 12. Alabama Summer Food Service  – Provides free meals and snacks to help low-income Alabama children in the summer months. Call: 334-694-4900
  • 13. Alabama Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP)  – Provides low-income seniors with a special benefit card to buy fresh, nutritious fruits, vegetables, and herbs from authorized farmers’ markets. Call: 334-240-7100
  • 14. Alabama Housing Choice Voucher Program  – Helps eligible low-income households lease privately owned rental units from participating landlords. Call: Local PHA
  • 15. Alabama Public Housing  – Provides safe, decent, and affordable rental units for eligible low-income residents. Call: Local PHA
  • 16. AHFA Step Up   A homeownership program that helps moderate-income home buyers with their down payment up to $10,000. Call: 334-244-9200
  • 17. AHFA Mortgage Credit Certificates  – Tax credits that can help Alabama home buyers with their house payments by reducing the amount of federal taxes owed by a percentage of the annual mortgage interest paid each year. Call: 334-244-9200
  • 18. Alabama State Grants and Scholarships Programs  – Alabama State has grants and scholarship funds available to students who meet certain criteria set by state education agencies.  Call:  334-242-1998
  • 19. Alabama Student Assistance Program (ASAP)  – A student aid program designed to provide assistance to undergraduate students who are Alabama residents. Student Aid Awards are between $300 and $5,000 per year. Call: 334-242-1998
  • 20. Alabama Scholarship for Dependents of Blind Parents  –Covers instructional fees and tuition for children of families in which the head of the family is blind and whose family income is insufficient to pay for higher education. Call334-229-4323
  • 21. Alabama Police Officers and Firefighters Survivors’ Educational Assistance Program (SFMNP)  – Provides educational grants for dependents and eligible spouses of Alabama police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty. Call: 334-242-2269
  • 22. Alabama GI Dependents’ Education Benefits Program  – Provides financial assistance for post-secondary education to children and spouses of eligible Alabama veterans. Call: 334-229-4323
  • 23. Alabama National Guard Education Assistance Program  – Provides up to $500 per semester and $1,000 annually to Alabama National Guard members for undergraduate and graduate education supplies and tuition. Call: 334-229-4323
