How and Where to Use the CalFresh (Food Stamps) Benefits?

With their Golden State Advantage cards, California households can buy almost any food for human consumption from approved markets and groceries. 

A notable exception is tobacco, alcohol, food supplements, meals from restaurants, and hot food for immediate consumption.

Some of the California Counties participate in the restaurant meal program launched by SNAP to allow eligible homeless, disabled and elderly households to purchase hot food.

Each participating County maintains a list of participating restaurants. For security reasons, USDA does not allow EBT (Golden State Advantage) cards to be used online to buy food from Internet websites.

CalFresh Benefits can only be used to purchase eligible food items at CalFresh authorized stores in the State of California.
